Social Cat Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 12, 2026
1. Who we are
Social Cat is operated by SC92 Limited, a private limited company registered in England and Wales under company number 13956841, with registered office at Hayvenhursts Links Business Park, St. Mellons, Cardiff, Wales, CF3 0LT (“Social Cat”, “we”, “us”). We are the data controller for personal data processed through our website at https://thesocialcat.com, our applications, and related services (the “Platform”). Our contact details are at the end of this policy.
This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under data protection laws including the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act where they apply to you.
2. What we collect
We collect a small number of categories of personal data, depending on how you use the Platform:
- Account data: name, email address, password (held as a hash), role (creator or brand), and any account details you provide during sign-up or onboarding.
- Profile data: profile photo, bio, location, country, demographic information you choose to share, niches, company details (for brands), and similar information.
- Connected social accounts: usernames and public-profile information from social platforms you choose to connect (such as Instagram or TikTok), plus the audience and content metrics those platforms make available about your account.
- Collaboration data: campaigns you create or apply to, messages exchanged on the Platform, deliverables, and any content you submit through the Platform.
- Payment data: billing details for paid subscriptions. Card numbers are handled by our payment processor; we do not store full card details. Collaboration fees between Brands and Creators are paid directly between the parties and do not pass through Social Cat.
- Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, referrer, and similar information collected through cookies, pixels, and server logs.
- Communications: messages you send to support, survey responses, and feedback you choose to share with us.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
3. Why we use it
We use personal data for purposes that fall into a small number of categories, each with a lawful basis under data protection law:
- Operating the Platform (lawful basis: contract, legitimate interests). Creating and authenticating your account, matching brands and creators, displaying profiles, processing collaborations, and providing support.
- Subscription billing (lawful basis: contract, legal obligation). Processing subscription fees, handling refunds where applicable, and complying with tax and accounting rules. We do not process payments between Brands and Creators.
- Improving the Platform (lawful basis: legitimate interests). Understanding how the Platform is used, fixing bugs, tuning matchmaking, analysing trends, and developing new features.
- Safety and integrity (lawful basis: legitimate interests, legal obligation). Detecting fraud, fake engagement, abuse, or breaches of our Terms; investigating disputes; complying with legal requests.
- Marketing (lawful basis: consent or legitimate interests). Sending product updates, newsletters, and offers. You can opt out at any time without losing access to the Platform.
4. Who we share it with
We share personal data with a small set of categories of recipient, only where it is necessary for the purposes described above:
- Other Platform users. When a brand and a creator match, the relevant profile and collaboration data becomes visible to the other party so the collaboration can take place.
- Service providers we rely on to run the Platform, including hosting, payments, email, analytics, customer support, anti-fraud, and AI providers. We choose providers that offer appropriate safeguards.
- Authorities where we are required to disclose data by law, regulation, or a valid legal request, or where we need to protect our rights or the safety of our users.
- Successors, where we go through a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets. We will let users know if their data is going to be transferred in that scenario.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels and local storage) to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, understand how the Platform is used, and measure the performance of our marketing. You can control non-essential cookies through your browser or through any cookie banner shown on the Platform. Some cookies are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled without breaking core functionality.
6. International transfers
Our service providers may be located outside the country where you live, including in the United States or other jurisdictions. Where data is transferred outside the UK or the European Economic Area, we put in place appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or other transfer mechanisms recognised by data protection authorities) to keep your data protected.
7. How long we keep it
We keep personal data for as long as we need it to provide the Platform, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When we no longer need it, we delete it or anonymise it. Specific retention periods depend on the type of data and the reason we are holding it; we will provide more detail if you ask.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights in relation to your personal data:
- Access a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Delete data, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Restrict or object to certain types of processing.
- Receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk).
You can exercise any of these rights by emailing us at the address below. We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request.
9. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular reviews of our processors. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a personal data breach that affects you, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires us to.
10. Children
The Platform is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and update the “last updated” date. Material changes will be notified by email or in-app notice.
